SUMMARY
Receives emergency and
non-emergency requests for ambulance
service from public and private parties and transmits orders to suitable
response units by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES include the
following. Other duties may be assigned.

Operates the telephone console to receive incoming
calls and requests for service.
־
Questions the calling
party, regarding the needs of the sick or injured person, in order to determine
the most appropriate resource(s) to
respond to the request.
־
Inputs vital information
into the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) System.
־
Scans the computer
screen, and operates the Teletrac® Device, to determine
the most appropriate ambulance to send.
־
Monitors specialized
telecommunications equipment that indicates the needs of public agencies.
־
Operates the two way
radio, Mobile Display Terminal (MDT), and paging system, to dispatch ambulances
and other necessary resources.
־
Relays instructions,
information or questions to and from remote personnel, units, and scenes.
־
Records all activity
regarding a transport into the CAD System.
־
Relays information between
hospital staff and field providers at scenes or in ambulances.
־
Transmits and receives
messages between the company and other agencies.
־
Contacts field providers
to verify assignment locations, monitors dispatched units and, when necessary,
serves as a liaison with callers.
־
Operates the TTD
equipment to communicate with the hearing impaired.
־
Participates in Quality
Improvement activities including audits, peer review and data collection
activities.

Participates in
continuing education activities as a student, instructor, and proctor.
־
Serves as a company
representative promoting positive customer relationships through proactive
involvement in public business and community activities
QUALIFICATIONS To
perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each

EDUCATION and/or
EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or
general education degree (GED); or one to three months of related experience
and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. One year of field experience as an EMT-1 is
preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and
interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance
instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to speak effectively using the radio. Ability
to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory
agencies, or members of the medical community.
Ability to write reports that conform to prescribed style and
format. Ability to effectively present
information to co-workers, field providers, supervisors, managers and administrators. Ability to listen actively and comprehend
the meaning of communications with co-workers, field providers, supervisors,
managers and administrators.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract,
multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common
fractions, and decimals. Ability to
compute rate, percent, and to interpret graphs and maps.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical
problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in some situations where
only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of
instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES,
REGISTRATIONS
Maintain current
certifications in First Aid and CPR.
EMT-1 certification is preferred and any Federal, State or local
requirements must be met.
