FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Brea, California - August 2, 2002 - The next time you pass an Emergency Ambulance Service (Emergency) vehicle on the road, you may want to smile for the camera.
All
vehicles in the Emergency fleet are being equipped with Drive Cam, a video
event data recorder that enables commercial fleets to improve driving
safety. Drive Cam is a miniature video
recorder mounted behind a vehicle's rearview mirror that records what the
driver sees and hears during unusual driving incidents. The recordings are part of a complete
Driving Feedback System that helps drivers and managers to assess driving
performance.
Emergency
serves the Los Angeles and Orange County areas, which encompass a population of
over 12 million people. The company has
been a leader in the use of new technology to improve safety and customer
service. Past technology improvements
included the installation of Mobile Data Terminals and Geo Positional Satellite
Navigation Systems. The company's
mission is to deliver first-rate ambulance services safely and economically,
with a focus on patient care and “Safety.”
"My
first concern has always been for the safety of our employees and
customers," said Phil Davis, president of Emergency. "We are one of very few ambulance
services to employ this technology to improve driving safety.”
Drive
Cam monitors driving activity by continuously recording video, audio, and four
directions of G-forces into a digital looping memory. G-forces are caused by activities such as hard braking,
acceleration, harsh cornering, or collisions, which trigger Drive Cam to save a
driving event for later viewing. Drive
Cam’s digital recording allows fleet managers to easily view an event on a TV,
camcorder, or laptop computer.
The complete Driving Feedback System includes the Drive Cam unit, a manager's guide, driver guide, instructional videotape, and Event Manager software for logging and tracking vehicle events.
Family-owned and operated since 1977, Emergency Ambulance Service, Inc. has 13 ambulance deployment centers located throughout Los Angeles and Orange Counties. EAS provides Emergency Basic Life Support and Nurse-Staffed Critical Care Transportation in Los Angeles and Orange Counties, and Advanced Life Support Paramedic ambulance service throughout Los Angeles County.
