City of Los Angeles opens door for Emergency Ambulance Service – Residents get another option for essential service

BREA, California - July 13, 2000 - Emergency Ambulance Service, Inc. (Emergency) announced today that at the July 13, 2000 meeting of the City of Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) Board of Transportation Commissioners, commission members approved an application for Ten Unrestricted Private Ambulance Permits submitted by Emergency.

Emergency received approval for the ten franchise permits based on significant evidence reflecting need and necessity. LADOT Franchise Regulations Manager Aurelio Albaisa, who handles the city’s franchise negotiations, said his department was prepared to recommend the commission accept Emergency’s application. Service by Emergency Ambulance Service begins July 14, 2000.

David Ybarra, Operations Manager for the company’s Los Angeles division, called it the “biggest milestone” in Emergency’s effort to start providing competing ambulance service in the City. Ybarra further noted “the granting of these permits puts Emergency in a very competitive position in the LA Market.”

Family-owned and operated since 1977, Emergency Ambulance Service, Inc. has eight ambulance deployment centers located throughout Los Angeles and Orange Counties.  Emergency Ambulance Service provides Emergency Basic Life Support and Nurse-Staffed Critical Care Transportation in Los Angeles and Orange Counties.  The company also provides 911 primary emergency ambulance services to five of the cities it operates in, as well as providing back up 911 service to several surrounding communities.
