Emergency Ambulance Service names Stan Schourup, RN, as its New Manager of Specialty Care Services

BREA, California - March 4, 2002 - Emergency Ambulance Service (Emergency) has selected Stan Schourup, RN, CEN, CCRN as its new manager of specialty care programs.  Schourup will be responsible for overall coordination of the company’s specialty care programs, including critical care transportation and paramedics.  In addition, Schourup will play an integral role in overseeing the company’s employee health program, as well as some aspects of training.

Mr. Schourup brings over twenty years of critical care transport (CCT) knowledge to Emergency, including experience with CCATS, Inc. the pioneer in critical care transportation services established by Laura Finn, Emergency’s Director of Quality Clinical Services.  Ms. Finn stated, “my relationship with Stan has offered years of mentoring opportunities and I take great pride in knowing that he is the finest choice for the position.”  Ms. Finn further stated, “This is a natural selection.  Stan brings all of the critical elements to the job of program manager.  He not only has the clinical knowledge and skill, but the loyalty of field providers and an abundance of recognition letters from patients and their families who have witnessed his performance.”

General Manager, Jim Karras, echoes Finn’s sentiments.  Mr. Karras commented, “This is witness to the natural evolution taking place at Emergency Ambulance, as we continue to reinforce an infrastructure based specifically on our strategic plan, not only do we gain an additional qualified leader dedicated to the Specialty Programs, Laura can focus on the Quality Clinical Services goals we have established as a part of that plan.”  He follows by commenting, “It’s all a part of our plan to raise the bar in the industry, and maintain our reputation for setting the ‘gold standard’ in clinical services.”

Mr. Schourup has been involved in emergency room and critical care nursing since 1972 and has assumed numerous leadership positions in the past including serving as head nurse for Alhambra Community Hospital’s emergency room over a period of 15 years.  Schourup has also served patients at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena and East Valley Hospital in Glendora as an emergency nurse, critical care nurse, mobile intensive care nurse, and pediatric trauma nurse.  Always maintaining an active acute care practice, he not only continues to work in East Valley Hospital’s emergency department as a staff R.N., but also acts as a house supervisor.

Stan began his critical care transport career in 1990 as a transport nurse working for Laura Finn, the current Director of Quality Clinical Services.  Stan’s other notable work experience includes his service as an emergency medical technician (EMT) in 1972, after graduating from one of the first two EMT classes offered in the State of California.

Mr. Schourup has studied at Mt. San Antonio College and Rio Hondo College.  He holds his associate of science in nursing and maintains licensure with California’s Board of Registered Nurses.  In addition, he is certified as a critical care nurse, emergency nurse, and mobile intensive care nurse.  In his own words, Schourup explained “This is an opportunity to bring my long years of field experience to the programs in a broader spectrum that affects not only patients and families, but the providers and decision makers as well”, he adds, “I’m ready.”
